a privilege and an honour

Most of our days we live preoccupied lives, jobs to do, bills to pay, problems to solve, places to be, people to see. We can get so busy "doing" that we loose sight of the big picture and what really matters in life.

Recently I joined my family in Victoria to pay our respects and bid farewell to our dear Uncle Les as he was laid to rest. It was a celebration of his life and his legacy.

I feel that when we attend a funeral we reflect on life and its meaning more than at any other time. Most of our days we live preoccupied lives, jobs to do, bills to pay, problems to solve, places to be, people to see. We can get so busy "doing" that we loose sight of the big picture and what really matters in life. A funeral brings us to a point of sober judgement and self reflection about our own contribution to family, community and society. A funeral has the potential to inspire people to make changes in their life for the better.

I count it as a privilege and an honour when asked to help mark the passing of a live with a floral arrangement. I hope that in some small way I can contribute to this moment of reflection.
